Oudtshoorn, Plettenberg Bay and Wilderness. Local is lekker and nothing beats a road trip.
Explore the Garden Route on this 4 night, self-catering, special offer staying in luxurious tents, proudly produced and handcrafted in South Africa. These tents offer 65 square meters of living space and are equipped with all the comforts of a permanent structure – 2 bedrooms, proper furniture, bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen, and a solid wooden floor, but with the romance and adventure of staying in a tent.
Each tent is equipped with air conditioning, an outdoor deck, all cooking equipment and facilities, electrical outlets, an en-suite bathroom, fireplace, fridge, lounge area, pure cotton linen, shower, tea, and coffee. Pure indulgence, in a tent!
The campsites all have a pool, braai areas and meals on request.
Spend the first night in Oudtshoorn in a luxury tent positioned around a large dam on a working ostrich farm. Free-roaming zebra, springbok, blue wildebeest, kudu, impala, eland, waterbuck and nyala wander the farm. Explore the famous Cango Caves, drive the Swartberg Mountain pass, or embrace local culture, crafts and food in the town.
Moving on with your road trip, the next 2 nights will be at the Crags in Plettenberg Bay, situated in a lush forest and Fynbos area. The raised tents offer outstanding views of rolling green hills surrounded by indigenous forested valleys and the Tsitsikamma Mountain Range. Explore Monkeyland, Birds of Eden, Jukani Wildlife centre, Hog Hollow Horse Trails, and Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve. Do a canoeing trip up the Bitou & Keurbooms River and visit some of the wine estates in the area.
End off your road trip adventure with an evening in the spectacular Wilderness, where your campsite is on a working dairy farm, where the cows might just make an appearance. Try your luck at fishing or take out one of the canoes on the large farm dam close to the dairy. A well-maintained track through the forest is ideal for mountain biking or trail running and the farm’s majestic waterfall makes for an adventurous forest hike. The kids can visit Oakhurst Dairy to watch cows being milked and calves being fed. Wilderness is famous for its long stretches of beach, rivers, lakes, and lagoons. The famous ‘Map of Africa’ viewpoint at Wilderness Heights shows views of the Kaaimans River Valley below.
Hiking, dolphin- and whale-watching, hang gliding, paragliding, horse riding, mountain biking, scenic drives, the Wilderness Lakes Art Route, and ferry cruises all deserve a spot on your Wilderness bucket list. If you enjoy shopping, Wilderness also has many craft markets selling beautiful, locally made items.
